Green Screen Portraits - Alexia

We first met Alexia when she was bridesmaid in her sister, Rochelle’s wedding a couple of years ago.

These images were produced for Alexia as part of her portfolio for the media/entertainment industry.

We used Green Screen photography techniques (replacement of background) and lighting effects in production and post production.

Beautiful, magical place. Noojee.

We just returned from a short stay at Toorongo River Sanctuary. A beautiful, peaceful place in the country. The accomodation was top class, and the surroundings so relaxing. We are currently doing some photography work for this resort and loved every minute we were there.

This morning the mist was floating low as the sun broke through. The result was an amazing collection of magical images. I still have more to edit, but here are a select few, already favourites.

89.9 Light FM Podcast - Aperture

Today we talked about Aperture! And what that all means.
Lots of fun on the Buzz with Cassie and Leroy.

We talked about a shoot we did with Chris Sebastian (Singer/Songwriter) yesterday in the City and how blurring out the background really helps the subject to “pop” out of the image.

Every Monday I join Cassie and Leroy in the Light FM Studio for our regular segment on Photography.

Intro to Project ReCapture

I can’t begin to imagine the grief that people who have lost family and homes in the fires are feeling. We packed up and evacuated early Saturday morning as we live in a high fire danger area. Thankfully our homes and actually the entire hills were spared from the fires, but its horrendous to contemplate the amount of loss.

In asking God what we could do to help those affected by the fires, I realise that He calls us to use the gifts that he has given us. I’m not a firefighter, or a trained counsellor, but we are photographers, and we can use this gift to bless those that have lost their precious memories in the fires. Though their photographs are irreplaceable, we can provide them with new memories, new photographs of their family.

Light FM Podcast - Segment 1

Cassie and Leroy from the Buzz talk to Karen Alsop of Emerald Eye Photography about keeping your precious photos backed up and safe.

We are still trying to come up with a name for this segment on Light FM so if you have any ideas please contact LightFM

Project ReCapture Update

Cassie and Leroy from The Buzz speak to Karen about Project ReCapture and how it is progressing since last weeks interview.

As Wedding and Portrait photographers we know how important it is to protect peoples memories, we had backups of backups in various places during the fire danger (including online) and took all our hard drives and computers down the mountain with us to the safety of my parent’s house. But there are those that didn’t expect the fires to ravage their area, or who couldn’t collect their photos before evacuating lost everything.

Project ReCapture gathers photographers from across the State of Victoria that will offer free Portraits of families who have lost their precious memories in the fires. The Photographers will provide families with prints and files of their new ReCaptured memories.

Winning Image - Beaconsfield CFA, Hillcrest Rangers

This particular image just won an award and prize money for Hillcrest Rangers. I can’t wait to reveal how or who it was through - that information will come as they publisize the award and presentation in 2 weeks time. This is fantastic for the Hillcrest Ranger Ministry. We were so thankful for the Beaconsfield Fire Brigade when they came to Hillcrest Rangers last year to teach and demonstrate what the CFA do. We are even more thankful to the Fire Department at this time as they have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks of the fires and we would like to honour them for their hard work and dedication.

This will take a congregated effort of many photographers who want to give to this cause through their professionalism, their time and their art. Emerald Eye Photography will bring these photographers together and will get the word out to the public to ensure that the hundred’s of people that have lost their homes.

If you know of a family that requires these services please contact us and we will put them in contact with their closest photographer that is part of this Project.

If you are a photographer that would like to be a part of Project ReCapture by offering your time and skill please, please contact us urgently.

We are now also looking into the creating of a coffee table book telling the stories of those families so deeply hurt by this disaster. Again we are seeking those willing to give, and are particularly putting the call out to Book Printers that are willing to print a run of these coffee table books as a donation. The books will then be sold to raise money for Bushfire relief. This wonderful idea was supplied by Mark from Enhance Studios.

If you are in the media and would like to get in contact with us to discuss further and publicize Project ReCapture to get the words out to the families that have lost so much, please contact Karen on 0416 233 451 or karen@emeraldeye.biz

Christmas Photos

Luke and Susie from the Morning Wakeup recently interviewed me on their show, sharing tips on family pics at Christmas.

It was great to be a part of the show, even though I was in Queensland at the time of the interview and they rang me at 6:00am QLD time! Considering I think I sound pretty chirpy!

Luke and Susie wrote about the segment in their own blog on the Light FM site:

The Christmas photo…. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!: One thing that is so fabulous about Christmas is that we sometimes get a chance to see our whole families together. For some, this could be the only time all year that everyone’s all in the one place. So, naturally, people want to remember the occasion with a Christmas family photo. Oh no!!! For those who love photos, no problem! But, many people aren’t fans of having their photos taken. We need to remember that it’s important to our families that we’re included in moments like the family photo. So, how can you be involved, without dreading how the photo will turn out? We got some tips from photographer Karen Alsop from Emerald Eye Photography . There are simple things we can do to make sure we look and feel our best and really make it a happy snap! You can hear Karen’s ideas on today’s podcast.

VideoStory

Emerald Eye Photography are pleased to announce the introduction of VideoStories. These beautifully captured and edited videos are able to tell a story, further enhancing your memories of your special day.

What is a “VideoStory” a video story is a collection of short clips from your Wedding Day (or portrait session) combined with your professional photographs all produced with our top of the line 5D Mark II’s. These cameras are capable of producing the highest quality HD video as well as of course gorgeous still images.

Why do we as photographers offer HD Video (clips)? Shouldn’t we focus on the still imagery?

Our focus has and always will be our still photography, but our background and skills have always extended into Video and Editing, and as we already have experience in the industry, with our new camera’s that offer both mediums, it is an extension on what we are able to offer you as clients.

Should we still hire a professional videographer?

We recommend if you desire full coverage of your wedding day in video you should hire a Videographer. VideoStories are more specialised in their approach, capturing the moments, telling the story of the day through a 3 - 6 minute video set to music.

If you just want to remember the highlights and the feeling of your day in video mixed with your professional photography, then a VideoStory is for you.

Our VideoStory of Lesleyjane and David is posted here for you to view. Set in a beautiful location at Gembrook, Swallowfield Winery and later Forest Edge, this VideoStory captures the emotion of their beautiful day.

VideoStories are available in our Platinum Premier package or as an Al La Carte option for $1000. The finished VideoStories are uploaded in high quality online for you to share with your friends and also presented to you in a personal DVD player photo frame along with all your photos from your wedding day that can be played on repeat. What a beautiful idea.

Lesleyjayne and David’s Wedding

What a beautiful wedding! I was just totally in awe of the location that Lesleyjayne and David chose for their ceremony. This hidden “Gem” in Gembrook is just breathtaking! Lesleyjane and David were blessed with the weather too, it was just gorgeous.

The Ceremony was held at Swallowfield Vineyard, in Gembrook. This is not just a Vineyard, this is a hidden paradise, I can’t wait to photograph another wedding at this location. The property is large with many hidden treasures throughout, including lakes, pine plantations, old shacks and of course, the expansive vineyard.

Lesley Jane and David had their reception that Forest Edge in Gembrook. These two properties are connected. I recommend to anyone planning their wedding, this venue should definitely be on your list to check out! Contact Forest Edge for details: www.forestedge.com.au

I’ve got so many more fantastic images to edit, but I just had to get a few of my favourites up here.
