Capturing the Moment

Event

Winning Image - Beaconsfield CFA, Hillcrest Rangers

This particular image just won an award and prize money for Hillcrest Rangers. I can’t wait to reveal how or who it was through - that information will come as they publisize the award and presentation in 2 weeks time. This is fantastic for the Hillcrest Ranger Ministry. We were so thankful for the Beaconsfield Fire Brigade when they came to Hillcrest Rangers last year to teach and demonstrate what the CFA do. We are even more thankful to the Fire Department at this time as they have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks of the fires and we would like to honour them for their hard work and dedication.

Light FM Interview

Luke and Susie from the Morning Wakeup recently interviewed me on their show, sharing tips on family pics at Christmas.

It was great to be a part of the show, even though I was in Queensland at the time of the interview and they rang me at 6:00am QLD time! Considering I think I sound pretty chirpy!

The interview can be listened to here:

Luke and Susie wrote about the segment in their own blog on the Light FM site:

The Christmas photo…. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!: One thing that is so fabulous about Christmas is that we sometimes get a chance to see our whole families together.  For some, this could be the only time all year that everyone’s all in the one place.  So, naturally, people want to remember the occasion with a Christmas family photo.  Oh no!!!  For those who love photos, no problem!  But, many people aren’t fans of having their photos taken.  We need to remember that it’s important to our families that we’re included in moments like the family photo.  So, how can you be involved, without dreading how the photo will turn out?  We got some tips from photographer Karen Alsop from Emerald Eye Photography .   There are simple things we can do to make sure we look and feel our best and really make it a happy snap!  You can hear Karen’s ideas on today’s podcast.

The Light FM site can be found here: http://www.lightfm.com.au where you will also find several of my photographs of the team.

Here are a few of the fun pics I took of Luke and Susie a few months back. Course a little post processing was involved…

And a few favourites of the afternoon team from The Buzz, Cassie and Leroy…

Merry Christmas

Stuart and I took a trip out to the beautiful Christmas lights at The Boulevard - Ivanhoe on Saturday night. So fantastic, as is my beautiful 5D Mark II which we got footage and shots from! Most of these images were taken between 3000 - 5000 iso! Can you believe it?!

I would like to especially thank those involved in making the Road to Christmas event a success! So many people put in so much work. It was an amazing night.

And thanks to all of you that attended our Grand Opening event. We hope you felt extremely welcome and hope you enjoyed the night.

I have posted a small selection of images from the night here, but you will find the entire gallery from start to finish here: Road to Christmas Gallery

We also hope to post some video up eventually and will keep you posted!

The night began with some pre-entertainment from our talented Hip Hop Dancers - Robyn and Peter

People started to fill the MPC auditorium. What a blessing to be able to partner with Hillcrest Christian College and utalise this magnificent venue!

The children were loving it!Children at Road to Christmas

We had a number of carols and items to start with, but I think one of the highlights for many was “Oh Happy Day” with Asahel Halstead and Chris Sebastian leading. We really had “church”

We came to the part of the night where the Angels entered… Thus began our Road to Christmas production.

I won’t tell the entire story of the production, except to say - Dorothy and Toto were out to find the true meaning of Christmas. I’ll let some of the pictures tell the story. (more at the gallery)

At the conclusion of the musical, it was only fitting that the Angels introduce Guy Sebastian (Angels brought him here - yes I know bad joke… Well there were a few of those during the night!)

Guy decided to get some exercise because he had been sitting for so long and his tight jeans were cutting off the circulation to his feet. So he had the kids chase him around the auditorium for a few dollars in his pocket!

After this little stint around the MPC, Guy proceeded to sing “Jesus, What a Wonderful Child”

Guy then invited brother Chris up to join him for a favourite, “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas”

Guy really encouraged the crowd to get into that last note of “Silent Night”

Larry Sebastian ended the wonderful night with a timely message, and the Casey City Church Band finished with The Hallelujah Chorus, Angels we have Heard on High and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

Sally Squad

We were so blessed to have Natalie Miller and the Sally Squad with us at Casey City Church on Sunday. What a fantastically gifted person - I don’t know how she does it, the puppets are so real! It is also wonderful to be in our new venue - the MPC at Hillcrest Christian College.

Think Pink

What a wonderful night. Jade Giles did a fantastic job of organising this very pink event supporting the fight against Breast Cancer.

I was so blessed to have a team of photographers on the night, thanks to Jane Sheppard, Lana Taylor and Stuart Alsop.

Light FM

We had fun with the Light FM photos created for their new website. Check them out!

Matt Corby Concert

Matt Corby (Australian Idol) performed on Saturday night in Blackburn. It was great to see our friends, Best Before up there with Matt during the night.

Little Firemen

We had the Fire Brigade from Beaconsfield visit Hillcrest Rangers on Friday night. The boys had an awesome time learning how to spray the hose!

Capturing the Light Course

Wow, what fun today was. The first ever session of “Capturing the Light”. I had a great time sharing with Lana, Jane and Stuart, and teaching this course. I look forward to the next session with them where we will learn more about capturing the light in magic hour.

The group got some great shots out on location. While they were taking abstracts down at Puffing Billy Station, I was catching shots of them in action. Here are some of my favorites. Add them to your facebook guys.

Lana was looking fantastic with the camera!

If you are interested in taking part in this practical, innovative course, please contact me for further details or click on the Photograph Course link on the left!

More from Impact

It was the final night of Impact last night. I got some great shots of Daniel Kelaart as he performed “Taller, Stronger, Better” (by Guy Sebastian). The power in Daniel’s voice came through in the photos.

I really love this one:

Impact 08

The past week, we have been involved in photographing the amazing Impact 08 - Big Tent event at Fountain Gate. We have many photos online here: Impact 08

Here are some of our favorites so far.

Stockade 08

You may have wondered why it’s been a couple of weeks since I last blogged… Well my energies had been focused on preparing this State wide Ranger camp that was held over the long weekend at Hillcrest.

The camp was fantastic, and well worth the effort. We have placed a number of images in our gallery (events) and all purchase profits will go towards Rangers Victoria for the purpose of equipping the outposts. More images will be added soon as Jane Sheppard kindly visited the camp to take some photographs for us too.
Here are just a few of my favorites.

The Gift

Just shot some promo images for “The Gift” a production that will be featured at Impact 08. The Gift was written by the extremely talented and “gifted” Luke Anderson.

How cool is that light?!
